Diocesan Groups

The Bishop is assisted in the running of the Diocese by various groups represented by Priests, Religious and Lay people.

Vicars Forane  

A Vicar Forane is a priest appointed to represent the Bishop in a Deanery. Enniscorthy, Wexford, Gorey and New Ross are the four Deaneries of the diocese of Ferns

Diocesan Chapter  

Members of the Chapter have the title Canon and are appointed by the Bishop. For the most part, their functions are honorary and are now undertaken by the College of Consultors.


























College of Consultors  

The College of Consultors is a diocesan body of 6 to 12 priests, chosen by the Bishop from among the members of the diocesan council of priests. Members are appointed to five-year, rotating, renewable terms. Canon law requires the Bishop to consult with his college of consultors before making certain decisions.


























Council of Priests 2007 - 2010  

The Council of Priests is an advisory body to the Bishop of Ferns. It comprises elected and nominated members of priests of the Diocese. The Council meets a minimum of six times a year and advises on a range of issues and gives direction on pastoral initiatives

The committee members, who may be clerical or lay persons, assist in the governance of the diocese in all financial matters.

Diocesan Funds  

St Aidan's Fund

This is a benevolent fund of the diocese of Ferns set up to make provision for retired clergy.

Sick Priests' Fund

This is a benevolent fund for the benefit of priests of the diocese.

Ferns on Mission Fund

This is a fund of the priests of the diocese of Ferns for the support of their colleagues on the Missions.

Building Committee  

This committee oversees parish property transactions within the diocese.

Ferns Ecumenical Committee

The Ecumenical Committee’s function is the promotion of the understanding and reconciliation among the different Christian traditions. It is made up of representatives of the mainstream churches in the area.
